San Francisco de Borja is the patron saint of Gandia and each year the town celebrates a few days in his honour, in an event known locally as 'La Fira'. The origins of the festival can be traced back to 1310 and begin with 'El Tio de la Porra', a performance which satirises Gandia's own town hall and officials. A series of entertainments of general interest to all ages take place over the following few days.
