San Diego Lesbian and Gay Pride Parade and Festival,

San Diego, United States

01 Jul 2011 - 31 Jul 2011

San Diego Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride is one of the largest grassroots organisations in San Diego producing an annual rally, parade and festival. Festivities include a mile-long parade with giant balloons, a two-day festival with multiple performance stages and various arts events and Pride parties in the weeks leading up to the main event. The huge inflatable balloons range from 3-15m (10-50ft) in height and come in all manner of shapes and sizes ranging from hula girls to dinosaurs. The weekend begins on Friday night with an outdoor rally at the festival's main stage in Balboa Park (Balboa Drive near Juniper) to commemorate 1969's Stonewall uprising in Greenwich Village, NY, a seminal moment in the history of the gay and lesbian rights movement.
