The biggest tourist resort on the island, Puerto del Carmen takes its turn for carnival fun over a long weekend after Ash Wednesday. On Carnival Thursday there is street theatre and entertainment, but Friday is set aside for the big gala event and on Saturday the grand carnival parade along the promenade. All the usual Carnival elements are here including fancy dress, decorated floats, papier mache figures and noisy celebrations.
