Los Llanos de Aridane is a cosmopolitan town with an old centre, located in the west of the island. Noted mainly for the production of bananas, the town takes a break in February to indulge in a week of Carnival. Here there is a distinct Caribbean flavour to the show, with Latin rhythms, colourful dance troupes, bands of street musicians and clownish performers. As in the neighbouring carnival of Santa Cruz, revellers are showered in talcum powder.
