01 May 2010 - 30 May 2010 Date to be confirmed

Also known as 'Tuen Ng Festival', this event is held in honour of the popular Chinese hero, Qu Yuan. According to legend, Qu Yuan lived over 2,000 years ago and drowned himself in the mighty Mi Lo River in a bid to highlight the issue of corrupt rulers. Grateful for his act of protest, local villagers tried to save his body from being eaten by fish by beating drums and throwing dumplings at the water. To this day, water remains central to the festival and each year teams compete in dramatic dragon boat races. Racing in ornate boats that measure about 10m (30ft) and manned by teams of 20 paddlers, this is an exciting event and a great festival for spectators.
