Las Fallas of Benidorm,

Benidorm, Spain

15 Mar 2010 - 19 Mar 2010

This Valencian tradition of Las Fallas is a festival with deep historical origins. Benidorm stages its own version of the famous event in three parts. Different districts of the town contribute a giant figure of wood and papier mache (falla) to the party. There is Centro Falla, Rincon Falla and Els Tolls Falla, each one hopefully out-doing the other for imaginative design and flamboyance. The highly decorated, often satirical fallas are to the fore in processions, which are augmented with street entertainment and fireworks over the four days leading up to the spectacular 'Crema' when they are finally set alight in one grand conflagration.
