Gerard Manley Hopkins International Summer School,

Celebrating its links to the English poet Gerard Manley Hopkins who wrote some of his best-loved and most famous work here, Monasterevin hosts its annual Summer School. Visitors to this vibrant literary festival learn about the poet's work at daily lectures held by esteemed scholars and experts. Often praised for its musical qualities, each year visitors are treated to performances of his poems set to music in various grand venues around Monasterevin. Participants are also encouraged to explore their own creative talents at a series of poetry and song writing workshops held throughout the duration of the event. First held in 1987, the Gerard Manley Hopkins International Summer School continues to attract visitors from all over the world who come to celebrate the memory and creativity of this great poet.
