Bard Summer School,

Clare Island, Ireland

01 Jul 2010 - 31 Jul 2010 Date to be confirmed

Between 25 and 40 people attend the Bard Summer School which each year takes one the great Irish myths and explores what meanings lie within these classic narratives. The chosen story is narrated on the first morning then retold using music, poetry and drama with each member adding their own embellishments to the story from their own imagination. During the school, visiting lecturers and experts offer new revelations and insights into the chosen text. Through unpicking these myths, members of the school explore such eternal themes as Exile and Return, Traditions and Transitions and Abundance and the Wasteland and try to give them significance in our modern lives. The school takes place away from the mainland on the beautiful Clare Island in County Mayo.
