Verona Opera Festival,

Verona, Italy

Verona Opera Festival -
01 Jun 2010 - 31 Aug 2010 Date to be confirmed

Where gladiators once battled to the death, aficionados now enjoy opera amid an atmosphere of refinement and civility. Verona's Roman Arena has survived the ravages of time and earthquakes to provide one of the most fascinating modern event venues in the world. Through the summer, a programme of opera takes place on two to six evenings of the week. The tradition of opera at this 2,000-year-old open-air theatre dates from 1913. The opera stage is the biggest in the world. 15,000 spectators fill the venue, and opera performances attract over half a million visitors each year. There is a great range of ticket prices, depending on prestige and location.

Performances begin at 2100 or 2130.
