Ceremony of the Keys,

London, United Kingdom

01 Jan 2009 - 31 Dec 2009

Each evening, visitors assemble at the Tower of London to watch the Ceremony of the Keys - an age-old ritual that has taken place at the famous landmark each night for at least the last 700 years. At various points in its history, the Tower of London has been a Royal Palace, Royal Mint and home to the Crown Regalia and still today it is home to the Crown Jewels, so securing the premises each night is an important event that is carried out by the Chief Yeoman Warder. Always beginning at 2153 each evening, the symbolic event lasts precisely 7 minutes as the Warder makes his way to lock the heavy wooden gates carrying the keys in one hand and brass lantern in the other.

Times
The ceremony takes place at 2153 each evening.
