Good Friday Processions,

Sicily, Italy

02 Apr 2010

The slow, solemn marches of local people and bands through the streets are a distinctive feature of many southern Italian and, in particular, Sicilian towns and villages on Good Friday. It is worth tracking down one of these events when in the area, although information may only be available locally. Some towns are noted for their religious processions. The Eastern Rite ceremonies at Piana degli Albanesi are distinctly Orthodox in character and are particularly interesting.
