East Cork Early Music Festival,

Cork, Ireland

01 Sep 2010 - 30 Sep 2010 Date to be confirmed

The term 'Early Music' is used for music composed before 1750, performed with instruments appropriate to the period, such as the baroque trumpet, oboe, harpsichord, viola and flute. The festival was created in 2003 to promote and encourage the appreciation and performance of 'Early Music', recalling the authentic style and spirit of an earlier time. The music is still vital and coherent to audiences today, both locally and internationally, and connections can be made to our present culture, from contemporary and traditional music to musical composition and other art forms such as modern dance and the theatre. As well as the high quality concerts, visitors can attend masterclasses and lectures for both beginners and specialists. The concerts are held in well-known historic venues in Cork, Midleton and various other East Cork towns, providing the right atmosphere for this kind of music.
