Marostica Living Chess Game,

Marostica, Italy

Marostica Living Chess Game -
10 Sep 2010 - 12 Sep 2010 Date to be confirmed

Long, long ago (actually 1454), two noblemen fell in love with the same beautiful Lionora. To decide which suitor would succeed, the Lord of the Manor decreed they should play a game of chess. Thus began the Marostica Living Chess Game, a drama replayed every two years but with a different script each time. What stays the same is the basic story and the idea of armed men in costume playing out their roles on a chequered terrace. A large cast of actors and musicians in medieval costume support the enactment before a crowd of up to 4,000 in the outdoor theatre specially erected in front of the 14th-century castle. The event takes place in even years, according to ancient tradition
