Eigse Mrs Crotty Traditional Music Festival,

Kilrush, Ireland

01 Aug 2009 - 31 Aug 2009

This festival is a five-day celebration of Elizabeth Crotty who, at her death in 1960, was recognised as Ireland's most famous concertina player. Elizabeth and her husband owned Crotty's Public House in Kilrush and people would seek out her company and sit captivated as she played. The festival has a wide variety of educational and entertaining events with concertina and fiddle classes (beginners to advanced), traditional singing workshops, set dancing, lectures and open-air concerts. Kilrush itself is a pretty sea-port town with one of the finest natural harbours in Europe and many other historical landmarks and is a fitting backdrop for this unique event.

The 14th annual Eigse Mrs Crotty Traditional Music Festival takes place in 2009.
