Committed to encouraging the production of thought-provoking films, the Harlem International Film Festival shows features, documentaries, shorts, animated works, and movies produced by emerging directors. There are also panel discussions, a children's programme and the Renaissance Awards, which honour inspirational individuals in entertainment, business and community development who support the internationally-renowned neighbourhood. In addition to showcasing some of the best movies from around the world, the festival also highlights films produced or directed by Harlem residents, movies about Harlem and its history or films which have been shot in Harlem.
