Odalan Festival ,

Bali, Indonesia

01 Jan 2010 - 31 Dec 2010

Each of Bali's thousands of temples celebrates its own Odalan Festival marking the anniversary of each temple's completion which is celebrated on every 210th day. With over 20,000 temples on the island and each festival lasting three days, on any given day there are numerous Odalan Festivals taking place across the island. Each temple has its own particular rituals, but typically the first day begins with the local women dressed in traditional Balinese clothing joining a procession to the temple where they lay gifts and offerings. The following two days usually involve prayer meetings, music, trance-like dancing, puppet theatre and feasting.
