Born on Nevis on 11 January, 1755, Alexander Hamilton is regarded as one of the most influential of the US's founding fathers. The illegitimate child of two Caribbean trading families, he went on to study in New York and later became the first secretary to the treasury and is widely acknowledged as being instrumental in setting up the US economy and establishing what would later become the Bank of America. Enshrined in US history, Hamilton is pictured on US$10 dollar bill. His birthday is celebrated each year with special talks and historical exhibitions.
