Each year the first day of May is celebrated as May Day or Labour Day. Although no longer really used as a day for workers to campaign about issues that affect them, the day is a public holiday throughout Cyprus. Many take the opportunity to spend the day with friends, family and loved ones and enjoy a day out somewhere. Many towns and cities also host some kind of special May Day festivity.
