Each year the city of Hamburg celebrates its port's birthday. The port, which was built in 1089, was instrumental in the development of the region. Numerous aquatic events take place during the weekend festivities, including a tall ships parade, tugboat ballet, dragon boat racing and a harbourside fireworks display. Events on dry land include a craft fair, fish market, live music and entertainment and a host of traditional fairground attractions.
