Festino di Santa Rosalia,

Palermo, Italy

01 Jul 2010 - 31 Jul 2010 Date to be confirmed

Santa Rosalia, Palermo's patron saint, is said to be responsible for the miracle that rid the town of the plague in 1624. Through musical performance and re-enactment, the festival tells the story of Palermo's curse and liberation from this plague which is thought to have killed some 30,000 of the city's citizens. Performed in the open square in front of the Royal Palace, the re-enactment features a large cast of actors, singers, and musicians. In addition to the show there is a parade through the streets of Palermo. Festino di Santa Rosalia comes to a rapturous close with a fireworks extravaganza.
