The Easter Holidays are quite a solemn and serious occasion on this predominantly Catholic island. Good Friday is traditionally a day of restraint and abstinence before the fairs and celebrations of Easter Sunday on which small gifts, usually of sweet foods, are exchanged. On Good Friday and Easter Sunday, many residents on the island attend church services.
