Each year thousands of runners from all over the world apply to take part in the annual ING New York City Marathon. The event attracts many serious competition runners as well as thousands more who run the event for fun. Many of the runners don fancy dress for the occasion and attempt to raise money for charities. The finish line in Central Park is the focal point for many of the celebrations and pre- and post-race activities.
