The Santa Cruz International Film Festival was first held in 2002 at the behest of the city's large artistic community. It's grown every year to become one of the leading events of its kind in the region and continues to be a great meeting place for filmmakers and artists to meet, view each other's work and discuss projects in a relaxed and informal environment. Attracting an equally eclectic audience, visitors are introduced to some truly original works and are invited to probe deeper into the films through Q&A sessions with filmmakers and directors. There are a number of prizes awarded in various categories including International Film, Best of the Fest Feature, Best of the Fest Documentary, Best Short Subject Narrative, Best Short Subject Documentary, Best Animated Film, Best Experimental/Avant-Garde Film, Best Student Film, Best Youth Produced Film.
