The Chinese New Year is one of the biggest celebrations in the Asian calendar and each year the city of Los Angeles celebrates the occasion with its Golden Dragon Parade. First held in the 1980s, the parade has grown to become one of the biggest festivals of the year that sees decorated floats, marching bands, dragon and lion dances and other cultural groups join a parade through LA's Chinatown district. The event is open to all and each year it attracts crowds in excess of 100,000 who come to watch the colourful spectacle.
