Another great event in Chicago's excellent programme of free music festivals, the Chicago Jazz Festival treats visitors to a weekend of free jazz performances in the city's Grant Park. The festival was first held in 1979 and over the years has succeeded in attracting the biggest names in the business with such jazz greats as John Coltrane and Duke Ellington having performed here in the past. One of the largest events of its kind in the US, the festival is broadcast across America by a number of radio stations helping to make it one of the best-loved jazz events in the country.
