Memorial Day Ceremonies,

Washington, United States

25 May 2010

The day is used to honour those who died in the war and features over 40 brass bands and marching groups who take part in the parade. Various veterans groups gather for the event, representing all of America's recent conflicts dating back to WW1. The parade starts at the foot of the Capitol and moves along Constitution towards the White House. Although only recently revived in Washington, the tradition dates back to 1868, three years after the end of the Civil War, when a day was set aside to remember those who lost their lives in that war.

Times
The parade begins at 1200.
