01 Mar 2011 - 31 Mar 2011 Date to be confirmed

In honour of Ireland's patron saint, the city celebrates St Patrick with a day of parades and parties. The parade, which is probably the largest in the USA, makes its way down Constitution Avenue and all cross-streets from Seventh to 17th streets are closed to traffic. The event was first held in 1971 and was fairly modest with just a few hundred participants. The modern day event is a huge affair enjoyed by young and old alike - regardless of whether or not they have any Irish heritage. In fact, they say that on St Patrick's Day, the whole city is Irish.

Times
Celebrations take place all day. The parade usually begins at 1130.
