Slave Life at Mount Vernon,

Visitors to George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate and Gardens can go on a guided half-hour walking tour through the estate. It focuses on the contributions the African-American slaves who built and managed George and Martha Washington's plantation home and gardens made to the estate. Mount Vernon was the beloved home of the Washingtons from the time of their marriage in 1759 until General Washington's death in 1799.
