Independence Day,

Washington, United States

04 Jul 2010

Although celebrated all over America, the Independence Day celebrations in Washington DC, the nation's capital, are the biggest and glitziest in the country. The celebrations include a day of concerts, parades, flag-waving and fireworks. The parade begins on Constitution Avenue and 7th Street and consists of marching bands and colourful floats. A National Folklife Festival on the Mall features different cultures in the Americas and a variety of ethnic groups representing all the faiths and ethnicities that make up the country. The day ends at the Washington Monument with a loud and fantastic fireworks display, which is reputed to be one of the biggest in the world. The day marks the signing of the Declaration of Independence on 4 July 1776 and is a national holiday throughout the country.
