Midsummer's Eve (Slaska Noc Swietojanska),

Warsaw, Poland

01 Jun 2010 - 30 Jun 2010 Date to be confirmed

Known as 'Slaska Noc Swietojanska' in Polish, Midsummer's Eve is a popular festival that celebrates the Summer Solstice, marking the longest day of the year. It is an ancient practice which dates back to pre-Christian times and has many rituals that are closely associated with nature and the hope for a good harvest in the autumn. It is a time to be with friends, family and loved ones and is usually celebrated with a big meal during the day before heading out to one of the many public celebrations in the evening. In Warsaw, wreathes with candles are thrown into the Wisla River and a fireworks display lights up the night sky.
