Celebrated on the last Thursday before Lent, Fat Thursday is a traditional festival with religious origins that is celebrated in Poland and Germany. On this day it is customary to feast on sweets and cakes before the abstinence of the Lent period. In Poland, 'paczki' is the traditional cake which is like a jelly-filled doughnut.
