Perth Cup (horse racing),

Perth, Australia

01 Jan 2011

Always held on New Year's Day, the annual Perth Cup is one of the biggest sporting events in the region and has become something of a New Year's tradition in Perth. Jockeys race their horses over a challenging 3,200m course creating an electric atmosphere in the stands. But the racing is only part of the fun with the event providing a great excuse for racegoers to dress up in their finest clothes with flamboyant hats being de rigueur for many of the ladies. Held at a time of the year when the weather is fine and the sun is almost certainly going to be shining, this is a popular event that is great way to welcome in the New Year.
