Chinese New Year,

Brisbane, Australia

14 Feb 2010

The biggest celebration of the year in the Chinese calendar, Chinese New Year is a huge party and a great time to visit Brisbane's Chinatown. The streets burst with life and colour as the lively celebrations get underway with cultural displays, traditional lion and dragon dances, Chinese dance and opera, live music and, of course, a loud and extravagant fireworks and firecracker display. Food and drink also plays a big part of the celebrations and Chinatown's restaurants are full to bursting with many street stalls offering tasty snacks outside. This is a great time to be in the city and offers visitors with a fascinating insight into Asian-Pacific identities.
