Founded in the latter part of the 19th century, the Whangarei Agricultural and Pastoral Society is best known for its country show, one of the biggest events held in Northland. Town and country come together in an exciting family atmosphere featuring equestrian events, livestock competitions, a farmyard nursery, trade exhibitions, a sideshow alley, fairground rides, entertainment, competitions and more. Aiming to provide something for everyone, recent events have also included vintage machinery exhibitions, shearing and wood chopping demonstrations, a four-wheel drive course and spinners and weavers - all in the pastoral setting of the spacious showgrounds.
