Porirua City Festival of the Elements,

Porirua, New Zealand

06 Feb 2010

Behind the somewhat inscrutable title of this event lies a festival organised by the Porirua Arts Council, using myriad performing arts to celebrate New Zealand's cultural diversity. Significantly the celebration takes place on Waitangi Day, whose historic treaty laid the foundations for the country's broad spectrum of creativity. Although held in a small town, it is one of the biggest celebrations of this national holiday, featuring more than a thousand performers and artists. The all-day festival goes ahead rain or shine, but there may be adjustments to the programme in the event of bad weather.
