Camel Cup,

Alice Springs, Australia

01 Jul 2010 - 31 Jul 2010 Date to be confirmed

Each year spectators flock to the Blatherskite Park for the annual Camel Cup. With as much order as can be mustered, the unruly camels are lined on the starting line by their fearless jockeys, the flag is dropped and they tear off at break-neck speeds. At least that's how it's supposed to work, but for each race you can guarantee that there are at least a few stubborn beasts who usually refuse to budge or amble off backwards to the distress of the jockeys and handlers! The unpredictable nature of these ‘ships of the desert' make for an interesting occasion with plenty of thrills and spills guaranteed for spectators. In addition to the camel races, there is an entertainment programme, live music, food and drink stands and craft stalls.
