Tropfest,

Sydney, Australia

01 Feb 2010 - 28 Feb 2010 Date to be confirmed

Usually held on the last Sunday in February, the annual Sony Tropfest is an outdoor short film festival that's completely free. Filmmakers are invited to submit films to be screened at the event but all films must abide by four basic rules: they must be made for Sony Tropfest; the films first public screening must be at the festival; films must be no longer than seven minutes; and films must contain the Tropfest Signature Item (TSI) for that year which is announced in the months leading up to the festival. TSIs in previous years have included such themes as rock, kiss and bubble, and it's up to the creativity of the filmmaker as to how the theme is interpreted. Live music and DJs keep crowds entertained during the day before the screenings begin in the evening. Held at Domain in Sydney's Royal Botanic Gardens, this is a fun festival that attracts large crowds who usually turn up early with a blanket and a picnic and stay for the day's entertainment.
