Balloons Over Waikato,

Hamilton, New Zealand

01 Mar 2011 - 30 Mar 2011 Date to be confirmed

A big date in Hamilton's calendar and just about the biggest ballooning event in New Zealand, this popular day is much more than just hot air. Over 100,000 spectators join hundreds of balloonists from around the world in an atmosphere of fun and friendship. The festival begins with mass ascents in the early morning, the balloons engaging in various demonstrations of aviation skill and a range of competitive activities. Novelty shapes and different sizes create an amazing spectacle, appreciated by the big crowds, who are also here to enjoy five days of entertainments, dances, concerts, musical performances and a big street parade, in and around the centre of town. Waikato has become something of a ballooning capital, with good landowner relations, a friendly population and excellent flying conditions.

Times
Various. Mass ascents from 0630.
