The Rotorua Mountains are claimed to be a mountainbiker's heaven, and this event is designed for anyone with a mountain bike to take part in. There are two event options: 12 or 24 continuous hours, to be completed by teams of four or five riders. It is an ideal way to get together with friends for a scenic and sometimes strenuous day in the mountain forests. The circuit is 8km (5 miles) long, and has been designed to cater for all abilities. The Moonride attracts in more than 2,000 cyclists each year to this spectacular part of the country and both events finish at 2200, when cash prizes are awarded to the winning teams.

Getting There

Road: The base is at Whakarewarewa Forest at MTB car park, adjacent to Waipa Sawmill, 2km (1.25 miles) south of Rotorua by Taupo Highway SH5, left into Waipa Mill Road. Rotorua is approximately 220km (138 miles) southeast of Auckland.
