ANZAC Day,

New Zealand

25 Apr 2010

In solemn remembrance of those New Zealanders and Australians who served and died at Gallipoli in 1915, the entire country pays its respects. Services and remembrance parades take place in every town and city, with the biggest official events staged in the capital of Auckland. Here, a dawn service is held a 0600, attended by veterans and city dignitaries. Then there is a Veteran's march from the Band Rotunda to the Court of Honour, when one round of Howitzer is fired. A flyover follows at about 0630 and a mid-morning service at 1100. Approximately 4,000-6,000 people attend each service. Roads in the area are closed from the previous evening until the end of ceremonies. In the afternoon a concert is held at the Holy Trinity Cathedral.

Times
From 0500.
