Auckland Marathon,

Auckland, New Zealand

01 Nov 2010 - 30 Nov 2010 Date to be confirmed

The course of the full marathon and half marathon covers a wide swathe of the Bay, starting at Devonport on the north shore. There are also walking events over 10km (6.2 miles) and 5km (3.1 miles). This has been Auckland's premier road racing event since the 1980s, and it attracts 10,000 runners and large crowds of supporters. Besides the excitement and spectacle of the races themselves, which take place against the backdrop of the city and the Bay, there is a big free concert in Victoria Park near the finishing line. Up to three recognised mainstream New Zealand bands play on stage in the evening, after a radio station party, various warm-up acts, kids' entertainments and a merchandise sales park have kept visitors entertained during the day.
