Christopher Street Day Parade,

Berlin, Germany

Christopher Street Day Parade -
01 Jun 2008 - 31 Jul 2008 Date to be confirmed

Christopher Street Day (CSD) Parade is an enormous outdoor gay and lesbian party that has taken place every summer in Berlin since 1979. The festival is named after the Stonewall Riots of 1969 in New York that happened after police raided a gay bar on Christopher Street. The CSD party includes a parade of brightly coloured floats with sound systems as well as live music and DJ sets. On the serious side, the event is also used as a platform for political campaigning and discussing gay and lesbian rights. The parade winds its way through the city before ending at Strasse des 17 Juni between the Siegessaule Victory Column and Entlastungsstrasse where there are several stages and food and drink stalls. The parade concludes with a spectacular fireworks display

Times
Floats assemble at 0930 at Knesebeckstrasse before beginning the parade at 1200 towards Strasse des 17 Juni; celebrations officially end at 2400 but parties continue late into the night
