India's National Day is celebrated each year on 26 January and marks the date when in 1950 India adopted the new constitution making it a democratic republic. Celebrations take place throughout the country but particularly in the Indian capital city of New Delhi. Specific events include a huge parade including many of the country's armed forces, marching bands, speeches and historic displays and exhibitions.
