Virgin Islands Carnival,

St Thomas, Virgin Islands, U.S.

01 Apr 2011 - 30 May 2011

One of the biggest and best carnivals in the whole of the Caribbean, the annual Virgin Islands Carnival is a spectacular month-long event that draws visitors from across the region. Like all good carnivals, it is a lively affair that is full of vibrancy and vivacity as revellers fill the streets and festival venues to the throbbing sounds of calypso, samba and reggae music. Sporting contests, culinary events and cultural exhibitions make up the backbone of the month's activities. And Carnival wouldn't be complete without the ever-popular Carnival Queen competition which sees local women compete under the age-old categories of swimwear, eveningwear and cultural dress for the honour of being crowned Queen for the following year.
