What began as an initiative to extend the tourist season has grown year on year to become a regular event and is now one of the biggest ballooning events in the country. Over the years, plain balloons have gradually given way to novelty designs such as animals, dragons and even houses. The amusements have also proliferated with a crafts fair running throughout the entire weekend, an amusement park, pony rides, remote control car racing, bouncy castles and fortune tellers. Top of the bill, though, are the mass ascensions of balloons in early morning and evening.
