Lameque International Baroque Music Festival,

Lameque, Canada

01 Jul 2011 - 31 Aug 2011 Date to be confirmed

Billed as a 'big festival on a little island', the Lameque International Baroque Music Festival began with a harpsichord recital in 1971 and grew from there. It is now Canada's oldest festival of its kind, attracting thousands of music lovers to the picturesque island and treating them to a feast of early music. Featuring outstanding performances on period or replica instruments, the festival is dedicated to the music of the 1600–1760 period and includes vocal and instrumental selections, choral works, chamber music and solo pieces. The whole island of Lameque celebrates together, putting on a show of street entertainers and colourful banners and flags in the town.
