The festival is billed as 'a hedonistic fortnight of culinary and gastronomic pleasures' culminating in the Good Food and Wine Show on the final weekend. Celebrity and Michelin-star chefs are in attendance to tickle the taste buds, and often to answer questions. A world of taste converges on South Africa at this time with a variety of international pavilions hosting many different countries. A 'Spirits of Africa' event allows visitors to test, taste, buy and re-educate their palates on the pleasures of spirits. There is a wine arena and workshop and stands exhibiting everything from farm produce to haute cuisine. Apart from the show, the festival events include special suppers at many hotels and restaurants, a 'Grand Gourmet Gallivant' and a formal 'Gourmet Signature Banquet'.
