Thrillers, science fiction, horror and cult movies are the mainstay of the Amsterdam Fantastic Film Festival, and has been terrifying audiences since its inception in 1984. Having begun life as the relatively modest 'Weekend of Terror', this festival has expanded its audience by including a variety of film genres from around the world. The festival programme includes features, retrospectives, a Fantastic Shorts section and a children's day. There are more than 70 screenings overall, and awards are handed out for Lifetime Achievement, and the Silver Scream Award for the film most popular with the audience.
