Auckland's long-running Easter Show has evolved from its agricultural roots to include a wide range of family entertainment and commercial exhibitions, running alongside the traditional livestock shows and competitions. At the heart of the show is a continuous funfair, with rides and sideshows. Dogs have their day at the sheepdog trials, and cats also feature in a competitive cat show. There are animal petting pens, sheep shearing demonstrations and an exhibition of the development of logging and land-cultivation. A competition sets out to find New Zealand's strongest man. All this sits alongside exhibitions of food and wine and of home improvements. It is a popular festival, with entertainers and musicians coming from home and abroad to entertain visitors.
