St Vincent Festival,

Burgundy, France

22 Jan 2011

This annual festival honours St Vincent, the patron saint of wine, and is celebrated in many of the wine-growing villages in France's Burgundy region. The popular event is very much a community affair and usually involves processions through the streets followed by mass and a huge banquet. The festival dates back hundreds of years but fell into a period of decline before it was reinstated in 1938 and continued every year since barring a brief cessation during WW2. Each year, the host village changes and the event attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors from across the region and beyond.
